Kusuma Cooray, honorary consul of Sri Lanka,
Second from left, was sworn in for a one-year
term as dean of the Consular Corps of Hawaii
at the group's annunal ball Feb. 18 at the
Sheraton Waikiki. Serving one-year terms with
Cooray are Australian Consul General Scott
Dewar (vice dean), left, Honorary Consul of
Norway Nina Fusi (secretary), Honoray
Consular Agent of Tonga Annie Kaneshiro
(treasurer) and Honorary Consul of Morocco
M. Jan Rumi (auditor).
Consular Corps honorees John Henry Felix,
honorary consul of Spain and Portugal, left,
and J. Hans Strasser, honorary consul general
of Austria, talked with Strasser's wife,
Marie Claire, and grandson Sidney Strasser
during a break in the program. The elder
Strasser received the corps' 2011 Lifetime
Achievement Award and the magnificent canoe
paddle trophy Sidney is holding in recognition
of his 35 years as Austria's diplomatic
representative in Hawaii. Felix received
the 2011 Distinguished Service Medal.
Guests of Patricia Lee, left, included Gov. Neil
Abercrombie, Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald
and the governor's wife, Nancie Caraway. The
blue ribbon on Lee's dress holds a miniature
version of I'Ordre Nationale du Merite, the
French medal she received several years ago for
her continuing service as honorary consul
of France.
